On June 27, 2025, His Excellency Dr. William Samoei RUTO led the Kenyan delegation to the 2nd UN Food Systems Summit Stocktake (UNFSS+4) that was assembling in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from July 27-29, 2025.

The convening and participation of His Excellency the President at the UNFSS+4 was critical as the gathering provided a significant platform for highlighting efforts towards the global initiative of accelerating food systems transformation, with the aim of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2, that is, aiming to end hunger, achieve food security, improve nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture by 2030.

The Meeting further provided a forum for tracking progress in food system transformation since 2021; identifying success and challenges; aligning efforts and promoting partnerships for a sustainable, reliant and equitable food systems; as well as unlocking finance and investments to accelerate achievement of the UN2030 Agenda and the SDGs.

The participation of His Excellency the President at the UNFSS+4 was also consistent with Kenya Government’s development blueprint, the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) of prioritising focus towards critical high productivity value chains in agriculture and social sectors to ensure sustainable food security.

In His Excellency’s statement, the President advocated for scaled up investments in Digital Technologies, Artificial Intelligence and Climate Smart Agriculture for promotion of sustainable farming practices and ultimately a food secure continent.

His Excellency the President also engaged other Leaders at the Meeting, including Their Excellencies the Prime Minister of Ethiopia, the President of Somalia, the Prime Minister of Italy, the President of IFAD and the Director General of FAO, where the President used the occasion to discuss bilateral matters, as well as issues of mutual interests.
