On Saturday 6th March 2021, the Kenya Embassy in Addis Ababa joined the Kenyan diaspora community in Ethiopia on a charity event at the Menagagesha Rehabilitation Center which is situated about 20km West of Addis Ababa. The Embassy delegation was led by the Deputy Head of Mission, Mr. George Kwanya who represented Ambassador Jean Kamau who is also the Patron of the Wananchi Club.
The Center is a 120-bed capacity facility which deals with the medical rehabilitation of people, mainly children between the ages of five (5) and eighteen (18) who have been adversely affected by Polio and Club Foot as well as various amputations occasioned by diseases and accidents. The Center achieves all these through activities such as physiotherapy and provision of necessary equipment need for normal life processes. It is also in the process of setting up a surgical unit. The Center also has a workshop where it assembles and makes items such as special shoes, manually operated wheelchairs, prosthetic limbs and other assistive gadgets.
Most of the funding for the Center comes from its annual funds drive and donations from local and foreign well-wishers.
The Kenyan diaspora community in Ethiopia, organized under the auspices of the diaspora organization, Wananchi Club, visited the Center and donated various food items and other non-food items such as face masks, toys, clothes and cleaning materials.
