H.E Amb Dr. Monica Juma hosted the Permanent Representatives of African countries to the African Union, to a dinner at the Hilton Addis Ababa on 25th January 2012 to present and lobby support for the candidature of Mr. Erastus Mwencha for re-election to the position of the Deputy Chair of the African Union Commission.

In her presentation statement, Amb. Juma paid tribute to Mr. Erastus Mwencha for the achievements of the past four years especially on Prudent Financial Management, Result Based Management.

Highlighting Mr. Mwencha’s credentials which include extensive experience, Pan African orientation and people skills, Amb. Juma called upon her fellow Ambassadors to fully support Mwencha’s candidature to guarantee sustainability and completion of the reform agenda that he began.  See the full text of the statement in the section under Ambassadors’ speeches.
Mr. Mwencha on his part highlighted his immense experience spanning over 30 years and put forward his agenda which included a commission that work with a common purpose, focus on basic issues such as infrastructural development, trade, integration among others

In attendance were Ambassadors from 44 countries, All Commissioners including H.E Jean Ping, AUC Chairperson, Amb. Muburi Muita and other Kenyans working for various International Organizations in Addis Ababa.
