Ambassador Catherine Muigai Mwangi Participates at the Joint Permanent Representative Committee and African Union Commission Retreat

photoAmbassador Catherine Muigai Mwangi participated in a two day joint retreat of the Permanent Representative Committee and the African Union Commission  from 14-15 April 2014 in Hawassa situated in the Southern Nations and Nationalities and Peoples region of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia. The main objective of the retreat was to enhance the institutional capacity of the Commission and strengthen the working relationships between the African Union Commission and Permanent Representative Committee within the context of Continental Integration.

The fourth Permanent Representative Committee and the African Union Commission retreat brought in new dimensions in the way the two organs relate in the pursuit of the attainment of the vision of the Union and examined whether the operational and programmatic approaches adopted are taking the Union in the desired direction.

The retreat delved more on  service delivery and strengthening relationship between the Permanent Representative Committee and the Commission particularly working together towards continental integration.

The retreat made recommendation on institutional capacities issues, interface between PRC and the capitals, alternative sources of funding the AU and its institutions, rationalization of Summit programmes to improve effectiveness among others.

photo1Key outcome of the Fourth Joint Retreat included establishment of a Joint Adhoc Working Group of the African Union Commission and the Permanent Representative Committee to translate the outcomes of the 4th PRC-AUC retreat into action plan and monitor its implementation and a guideline to develop a framework document on workable modalities for the empowerment of the African Union Commission and its Organs for effective Service delivery.

Amb. Christopher Chika, Deputy Head of Mission and Ms. Mercy A.Odongo accompanied the H.E the Ambassador to the retreat.
