Regionally, the mission is accredited to the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) whose mandate is to assist and complement the efforts of the Member States to achieve, through increased cooperation food Security and environmental protection; peace and security and economic cooperation and integration. At the continental level, the mission is accredited to the African Union, whose vision is an “An integrated, prosperous and peaceful Africa, driven by its own citizens and representing a dynamic force in global arena.”

This year as we continue to celebrate our fifty years since we attained independence, we intend to rebrand the website to make your interaction with us more effective and dynamic. Over the years, the mission working within the African Union framework has increasingly influenced continental and global policies. Bilaterally the mission has immensely contributed to the nurturing, deepening and sustaining the cordial relations with Ethiopia and Djibouti.

I wish to highlight some of the key events since I assumed office as the Ambassador. In March 10-12th 2014, the Mission facilitated the first state visit to Ethiopia by H.E Uhuru Kenyatta, the President and Commander in Chief of the Defense Forces of the Republic of Kenya. I subsequently presented my letters of credence to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and African Union on the 8th and 9th April 2014 respectively.

In April I participated in a two day joint retreat of the Permanent Representative Committee and the Commission in Hawassa in the Southern Nations and Nationalities and Peoples in the Southern part of Ethiopia whose main objective was working together towards continental integration and service delivery. I was honored to be part of the group of African Ambassadors who participated in the African Union led election monitoring and observation in South Africa.

In May I participated in the Committee of 10 on United Nations Reform Summit held from the 15-16 May in Congo Brazzaville.

In 2014 the website will focus on celebrating 50 years of independence highlighting key milestones in the political, social and economic arenas.
